Four OSHA Outreach Trainer Programs Available

The OSHA Training Institute Education Center at CSUDH offers four OSHA Authorized Outreach Training Programs in Construction, General Industry, Maritime Safety and Disaster Site. If you have the required experience, this can be an excellent opportunity to become an Authorized Trainer for your company, or to build your own business. Current OSHA Authorized Outreach Trainers with a minimum 1-year experience with Title 8 regulations may earn a Cal/OSHA endorsement to be able to conduct 10 and 30 Hour training based on Cal/OSHA regulations (see requirements below).

Construction Industry Outreach Trainer

Required Course: OSHA #500 Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry

Prerequisite Course: Construction Industry - OSHA #510 OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry.

Requirements: OSHA #510 course completed within the last seven years and five years of construction safety experience. A bachelor or higher college degree in occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene by an accredited college or university, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation in the applicable training area may be substituted for two years of experience.

Trainer will be authorized to deliver 10 and 30 Hour OSHA Training for the Construction Industry.

Construction Industry Outreach Trainer

General Industry Outreach Trainer

Required Course: OSHA #501 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry.

Prerequisite Course: OSHA #511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for General Industry.

Requirements: OSHA #511 course completed within the last seven years and five years of general industry safety experience. A bachelor or higher college degree in occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene by an accredited college or university, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation in the applicable training area may be substituted for two years of experience.

Trainer will be authorized to deliver 10 and 30 Hour OSHA Training for General Industry.

Maritime Industry Outreach Trainer

Required Course: OSHA #5400 Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry.

Prerequisite Course: OSHA #5410 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Maritime Industry.

Requirements: OSHA #5410 course completed within the last seven years and five years of maritime industry safety experience. A bachelor or higher college degree in occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene by an accredited college or university, a Certified Marine Chemist (CMC), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation in the applicable training area may be substituted for two years of experience.

Trainer will be authorized to deliver 10 and 30 Hour OSHA Training for the Maritime Industry.

Disaster Site Worker Outreach Trainer

Required Course: OSHA #5600 Trainer Course for Disaster Site Worker Requirements: Current OSHA authorization as a Construction, Maritime or General Industry Outreach trainer, three years of safety training experience, and either completion of the 40-hour HAZWOPER course or possession of journey-level credentials in a building trade union.

Trainer will be authorized to deliver 7.5 and 15 Hour OSHA Training for Disaster Sites Workers.

Disaster Site Worker Outreach Trainer

Steps to enroll in OSHA 500/501/5400/5600:

Submit completed prerequisite verification form and proof of prerequisite course completion to osha@csudh.edu, download at www.csudh.edu/OSHA/forms.html.
If approved, a permission number will be issued to you (allow 2-3 business days for processing).
Contact the registration office to provide permission number and payment for course (310-243-3741).

Cal/OSHA Endorsement to Teach 10 and 30 Hour OSHA Outreach Training

Requirements: Be a current authorized OSHA Outreach trainer or become an authorized OSHA Outreach trainer within six (6) months after completing OSHA 5109 or OSHA 5119 course. Trainers should note that the Cal/OSHA Partnership endorsement expires on the same date as their federal trainer authorization. Candidates must have at least one year of verifiable safety and health experience with an organization governed by Cal/OSHA standards. Outreach Trainers will be required to sign a "Statement of Eligibility" form, prior to, or in their Cal/OSHA course.
